So far, I have to say everything has been great with the remodel process. However, I have not been overly wow'd by the drywallers. A few areas in the addition with large gaps between the pieces of drywall that seem to me should be smaller, but maybe I'm too picky. After all, they are the ones who do it for a living.
What tipped the scales for me was the piece they put in the bedroom (soon-to-be office) where the window used to be. I didn't notice at first, but the top of the patch is inset about 1/4". Can't really see it in the 'before' photo...

... but when they try to even it out with drywall mud, it really becomes apparent. Let's zoom in a little, shall we?

You should've seen it before the big glob fell off onto the carpet...

Again, I stress that I am not a carpenter or drywaller by any stretch of the imagination. But, would it not seem like a better idea to just replace the drywall so that it is flush along the top than to try evening it out with copious amounts of drywall mud??

By the way, drywall mud comes out of the carpet using hot water and a rag. Luckily, I got to it before it had really hardened...

OH NO!!!! I agree, while I have 0 expertise in the area, that looks like a pretty crappy job.
that's re-frickin-diculous! I'd demand a redo.
As it happens I am an expert on smooth flat walls, I have been surrounded by them my whole life. I can tell you this IS NOT NORMAL. I love how the drywaller thinks that more mud is the answer. It is like a kid who cuts their own hair and then keeps snipping trying to "even things out". Best of luck with that.
if Garys look at church today has anything to do with it, the wall will be redone and fast!!
I think it adds character...or maybe I just got to much sun today;-)
