I have found that I LOVE creating things that aren't going to be eaten and disappear in 5.3 seconds, not that I am going to stop baking, cooking and decorating. It is just immensely satisfing to make something that will be around to be used and, hopefully, loved for a long time. I made this blanket for Rae's baby who is due to show up in March(ish) and I really thougth I would be working on it until at least, well, March. I became obsessed and I finished it in about a week and a half. Many thanks to Nina for the initial advice nad demonstrations of crocheting the first night I was trying to figure it out. I got the idea for making it lined with flannel on one side from my Grandma Bowlby who made double sided knit quilts for all my kids (all the great-grandkids) for many years. I went out the Ranch last week and begged her to walk me through how to put it all together and ,if I do say so myself, it turned out GREAT=). The colours are not a typical baby quilt but they are totally Rae's colors and I made it kind of big for a baby quilt because her babys are kind of big, lol.
I even HANDSEWED the blanket stitch alllllllll the way around so I could attach the flannel and finish it off pretty, no scallops or "shells" for this boy, I played with a pattern I found and readjusted to fit the blanket=) I do it all the time with recipes I'm not about to start following the plans just because it's not edible.
